United Financial collects purses and personal hygiene items for local women’s shelters

United Financial Credit Union was formed on the principle of cooperation. We believe we’re stronger when we work together for the good of all. That’s why our mission goes beyond financial services and goes beyond our doors. We’re committed to giving back to the community. This past July, we held a purse drive that benefited Underground Railroad and Bay Area Women’s Center.

United Financial would like to thank everyone who donated purses, personal care products and monetary donations. Over 150 purses were collected, along with $100 in monetary donations. Purses were donated to Saginaw’s Underground Railroad and Bay Area Women’s Center. Purses that were donated to Bay Area Women’s Center will be used to fill client needs and were utilized to support the Power of the Purse auction event that took place on August 9th at the Double Tree in Bay City. Purses donated to Underground Railroad will be filled with comfort items that were collected. These purses will be given to survivors of sexual and domestic assault. In most abusive situations, there is not time to pack personal care items such as toothpaste, toothbrush, and other personal hygiene products. A special thank you to G’s Pizzeria of Saginaw for partnering with us as a drop off location. All proceeds support services for survivors of domestic and sexual assault.

United Financial Credit Union was founded in 1964 to serve a small group of tool and die workers in the Bridgeport area.
